Edelbrock Rules In Two States On One Awesome Weekend

TORRANCE, Calif. (May 14, 2002) – Front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive, Ohio or New Jersey, Edelbrock-equipped racing cars tromped on the competition in two top drag racing series.

Edelbrock racers Bill Glidden and Derrek Smith dominated in the NMRA All-Star Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. The Edelbrock-equipped Glidden Mustang tore through the quarter-mile in 6.88 seconds at an average speed of 202.73 miles per hour, winning the PRO-5.0 class for the second consecutive year. Derrek Smith finished second, losing only to Glidden. Glidden was equipped with Edelbrock proto nitrous systems while Smith’s car had a 2862 manifold and proto nitrous system. In the Hot Street class, Kurt Neighbor was quick qualifier in his car equipped with Edelbrock heads and manifold, while Jimmy Larocca was quick qualifier in EFI Renegade with Victor Jr. heads.

Meanwhile, in the NHRA’s front-wheel drive series, at the Nitto Sport Compact Nationals, Jojo Callos drove his Edelbrock Victor X manifold-equipped Acura to victory at Englishtown, N.J. During qualifying, he posted a quick time of 8.893 seconds at an average speed of 160.31 mph. Callos was the first car in the field to achieve times in the 8-second range and led every round of qualifying.
