Edelbrock Names Scholarship Award Recipient

TORRANCE, Calif. (June 13, 2002) – Honoring the past and looking to the future, Vic Edelbrock today presented automotive student Justin Prater of Hays, Kansas, a check for $3,650 as the recipient of the 2002 Edelbrock Scholarship Award. Prater, 19, is a student at the Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas.

Edelbrock, the president and CEO of Torrance, Calif.-based Edelbrock Corporation, began the scholarship program in 1996 to honor his father, Vic Sr., who founded Edelbrock in 1938. Vic Sr. was born in Eudora, Kansas, so Vic Jr. decided to set up the annual scholarship program with a school offering an automotive curriculum in Kansas.

"The Northwest Kansas Technical College has a great automotive program and I feel very good about partnering with them on the Edelbrock Scholarship Program," said Vic Edelbrock. "It’s a great way to pave the future for budding automotive students while remembering my father. Justin’s a great kid, loves drag racing and fixing cars. He’s the ideal Edelbrock Scholarship recipient." Prater and his parents, Janice and Randy, were flown out to Edelbrock headquarters in Torrance, Calif., and received the royal treatment, including a tour of the facility, gifts and the scholarship award. "I’m truly honored that my school selected me for this year’s Edelbrock Scholarship," said Prater. "Edelbrock is a huge part of one of my biggest hobbies, bracket racing. Anyone who has ever opened a car magazine or knows anything about performance knows Edelbrock."
