Edelbrock’s New Performer X Turbo System For Honda Civics Receives E.O. Number, Making It 50-State Legal
Turbo provides power gains of 65 horsepower in one complete package for Civics with SOHC V-Tec D16Y8 engines
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 2, 2003) – Not only is Edelbrock’s new Performer X turbo system the most complete kit available for Honda Civics, it’s now officially 50-state legal.
According to Jack Mayberry, Edelbrock vice president of R&D, “the Performer X turbo system (PN 1500), engineered specifically for 1996-00 Honda Civics with SOHC V-Tec D16Y8 engines, has received a new Executive Order number (E.O. D-215-59) from the California Air Resources Board.”
Mayberry’s team of engineers worked hard to make the hot-selling turbo kit 50-state legal, and it paid off. “We’ve seen tremendous interest on the kit, and with the E.O. number, Honda Civic enthusiasts across the country will be able to enjoy all the performance benefits from it, as well as be in compliance with the emission laws,” Mayberry said. “Best of all, the Performer X Turbo Kit, like all Edelbrock products, comes complete with all components needed for installation, making it the most complete kit on the market for Civics.
Edelbrock has designed the Performer X Turbo kit to provide more than a 60 percent power boost, from 105 horsepower to 170 hp, measured at the wheels.
The Garrett T28 ball-bearing turbocharger comes pre-assembled as one unit with a Ni-resist cast exhaust manifold, a cast iron exhaust elbow and inlet oil and water lines for the simplest possible installation.
The system includes a high-performance Performer X intake manifold with four extra injectors and a separate electronic controller to add fuel under boosted conditions. It also has an oversized Spearco intercooler and Tial blow-off valve. The Edelbrock exhaust manifold and elbow are designed for maximum flow at high-velocity for quicker turbo spool-up. Edelbrock has included an AutoMeter boost gauge with A-pillar mount pod, and pre-assembled Russell oil, water and fuel lines to make this the most complete kit on the market. It also features an O-ring sealed compressor, inlet/outlet pipe flanges, ceramic-coated turbo piping and high-flow air filter, plus all necessary gaskets, adapters, and detailed installation instructions.
Edelbrock’s Performer X Turbo kit has an approximate street price of $3,500. Kits are now available at Edelbrock retailers nationwide.
The Honda turbo continues Edelbrock’s foray into the sport compact market. At the recent SEMA IAS show, Vic Edelbrock Jr., President and CEO of Edelbrock, also announced plans for future turbo kits, including: 1999-2000 Honda Civic Si models; 1992-95 Honda Civics with SOHC VTEC engines; 1994-2001 Acura Integra GSR; 1994-2000 Acura Integra LS; and 1997-2001 Acura Integra Type R. Also, off-road racing turbo kits are planned for 1992-95 and 1996-2000 Honda Civic SOHC VTEC models.
