New Products Highlight Edelbrock’s Continued Expansion Into The Sport Compact Market

New 8-page brochure at SEMA IAS (booth 3649) features famed performance parts manufacturer’s impressive product lineup for fast-growing billion-dollar market

TORRANCE, Calif. (Apr. 25, 2003) – How big is the sport compact market? SEMA reports it’s worth a billion dollars in annual sales…and growing quickly. Another way to judge the size of this relatively new market is to see who the players are. A great example is the Edelbrock Corporation, a 65-year-old icon in the performance aftermarket which is spotlighting a new Honda turbo (PN 1500) and several other new products at the SEMA International Auto Salon (IAS) in booth 3649. With a new 8-page sports compact products-only brochure produced for IAS, and a full sport compact products catalog due out in the summer, Edelbrock has definitely become a major player in this exciting market. The 8-page brochure highlights several of Edelbrock’s new products and shows the breadth of its current sport compact lineup -- including the new turbo, headers, intake manifolds, throttle bodies, fuel pumps, fuel pressure regulators, aluminum fuel rails, short shifters and several nitrous items. “The sport compact market is a great avenue for Edelbrock products” said Vic Edelbrock, President and CEO of Edelbrock Corporation. “Sport compact enthusiasts want quality, precision and performance, and that’s what we deliver.” Edelbrock’s diverse, ever-growing sport compact product assortment offers the finest aftermarket performance parts for Honda, Acura, Ford Focus and more. Among the product categories are:

Intake Manifolds
The big news here is the Performer X manifold (PN 4757) for 1996-00 Honda Civics with SHOC V-TEC engines. Fifty-state emission legal, the manifold includes a secondary set of injector bosses for additional fuel requirements in turbo or race applications. The larger-than-stock plenum volume and 9-inch runner length are tuned for additional power at high rpm, providing excellent power gains throughout the 3,000-7,500 rpm range. PN 4756 is for naturally aspirated applications.

Throttle Bodies
Edelbrock’s throttle bodies are legendary, and the Victor racing throttle bodies for sport compacts are no exception. Victor 70mm (PN 3811) and 75mm (PN 3812) race throttle bodies can be easily adapted to a wide variety of applications. Edelbrock has eliminated the idle air motor mount and unnecessary vacuum tubes, making these throttle bodies ideal for boosted applications. The throttle arm has a cable wheel with multiple take-off points. They are cast and fully machined by Edelbrock, then assembled by Magnetti Marelli USA. Shipped complete and ready to run with a throttle position sensor installed and pre-set, the throttle bodies can be adapted to a number of applications using Edelbrock 1/2-inch-thick spacer/adapters (intake port matching required).

Nitrous Systems
Edelbrock recently boosted its top-quality, innovative nitrous equipment line to more than 130 products, including bolt-on and direct-port kits, plus lots of accessories.

Edelbrock Performer EFI nitrous systems for sport compacts offer 40-70 horsepower at the wheels…instantly (for direct-port systems, the gain is 150 hp…or more!). They work with stock ECU for simple installation. “Dry” systems get extra fuel for the boost in power from the stock injectors, while “wet” systems use a direct-port-style nozzle to spray nitrous and fuel into the intake runner. Performer EFI nitrous systems include a 10-lb. nitrous bottle (shipped empty), nitrous solenoid, aircraft-quality steel braided hose, nitrous filter, jet selection, aircraft-quality fittings, switches, brackets and hardware from complete installation.

Performer EFI Wet system applications include:
  • PN 71001: for 2002 Acura RSX, Type S and 2003 Honda Civic (40-70 hp)
  • PN 71002: for 2001-02 Honda Civic (40-60 hp)
  • PN 71003: for 2002 Subaru WRX (60 hp)

Performer EFI Dry system applications include:
  • PN 70211: for 2002-03 Chevy Cavalier with Ecotec 2.2l (40-60 hp)

For direct-port nitrous systems, there are two Edelbrock/Glidden Series 2 kits for 4-cylinder engines. They feature distribution blocks and hard lines to fit just about any engine compartment. Stainless steel low-pressure nozzles, fitting and jets are used for incredible durability and quality. Super Victor (PN 71835, 100-250 hp) kits are designed to produce maximum power in a single-stage set-up, while Victor kits (PN 71845, 75-100 hp) use smaller solenoids, lines and jetting and are perfect for multi-stage installations.

    Header
New in this category is the Pro Flo 1-Piece header (PN 47522) for 1994-99 Acura Integra GSRs. The header features a new 4-into-one design that eliminates the intermediate flange gasket. Prototype tests showed gains on a stock motor of 7 ft. /lbs. of torque @ 5,500 rpm over a competitor’s brand while retaining the stock cat-back exhaust system. Edelbrock’s Pro Flo 1- Piece header include mandrel-bent 1_-inch primary tubes, an exclusive pie-shaped primary tube shape at the collector junction, heavy duty 3/8-inch laser-cut flanges for a positive gasket seal and ceramic coated 16-gauge mild steel construction. Fifty-state-legal, E.O. number pending.

Fuel System Components (EFI pumps, regulators, EFI fuel rails)

Plenty of new products here, including:

  • Competition Electric Fuel Pump (PN 1790) which is manufactured by Essex Industries and features a -10 AN inlet/outlet and a flow rate of 80 GPH at 45 psi for use with high-horsepower fuel-injected applications. In-line design keeps the pump motor and components cool, even under harsh conditions.

  • Fuel Pressure Regulators: Two new ones: PN 1728 for 180 GPH with dual -6 AN inlets, single -6 outlet and external bypass for EFI applications and PN 1729 for 180 GPH with dual -10 AN inlets, single -10 outlet and external bypass for EFI applications. Manufactured by Essex, these regulators are machined from aircraft-quality aluminum and have fluorosilicone diaphragm material for extended life and high temperature protection. Compatible with all grades of gasoline and methane and have 1/8-inch NPT gauge ports.

  • Aluminum Fuel Rails: Great looking and fully CNC machined from aluminum extrusions, polished then hard anodized for use with all racing fuels, including methanol and alcohol. The 5/8-inch i.d. fuel passage features a flow-through design with –8 AN O-ring threads on both ends. Fuel rails include a fuel regulator mounting at the end of the rail that can be used with stock or aftermarket regulators. They are drilled for the injectors, then machined with two auxiliary 1/8-inch NPT ports for pressure gauge, nitrous system fuel supply, etc.

Applications include: 1994-01 Acura Integra; drilled for Honda-style injector (PN 4796), drilled for Bosch-style injector (PN 4797); 1996-00 Honda Civics (except Si); drilled for Honda-style injector (PN 4798), drilled for Bosch-style injector (PN 4799.)

The Edelbrock Corporation is celebrating its 65th anniversary of manufacturing and marketing the highest quality aftermarket performance automotive and motorcycle products.

Edelbrock’s ever-expanding product line now features more than 7,500 performance products for domestics and imports, including nitrous systems, fuel rails, throttle bodies, exhaust headers, camshafts, fuel pumps, aluminum manifolds, exhaust systems, suspension and shocks, EFI systems, aluminum cylinder heads, water pumps, crate engines, brake and fuel lines and fluid transfer products.
