Brittany Prouty was honored yesterday at Vic's Garage in Torrance, and Dr. Steven Fish, Superintendent of the Torrance Unified School District, was on hand to help award Prouty her $1,000 prize. "Nancy and I are thrilled to present this award to Brittany. It's always a pleasure to see a new generation of young people grow up with the same passion for automobiles that I felt at their age," says Vic Edelbrock, Jr., company president and CEO. "This is such an honor for me," says Prouty, who, besides her automotive endeavors, is also an avid artist and has taken college-level art courses. "I want to work in the automotive industry, and this award will help me continue my education. I can't begin to express my gratitude." Candidates for the scholarship are selected by Tom Stout, South High's Practical Arts teacher who teaches an auto shop class. This year, Brittany was his first choice. After graduation, she will attend Wyo Tech, a technical school with campuses in Wyoming, Pennsylvania and Sacramento, California.
